Job summary

Mount Sinai seeks a Patient Coordinator I to greet patients and verify insurance, updating demographics in the practice management system to ensure correct coverage for the physician seen.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate/GED.
  • 1 year physician practice experience
  • On-site training provided (minimum one week)
  • Prefer experience in a medical office setting with scheduling systems
  • IDX or practice management system experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients in person or by phone and update insurance/demographics in the practice management system.
  • Assure physician accepts presented insurance and verify prior to visit or at arrival.
  • Communicate patient arrival status to appropriate staff and ensure medical records are available.
  • Process HIPAA paperwork and other institutional forms as necessary.
  • Collect or retrieve referrals or authorizations as required.
  • Monitor waiting room status and keep patients informed about wait times.
  • Ensure patient has paid co-pay or collect co-pay under billing staff guidance and provide receipt.
  • May schedule follow-up appointments and provide guidelines for obtaining medical records.
  • May perform simple charge entry or enter patient payments and prepare cash deposits.
  • Handle call center duties for Faculty Practice Associates and answer phones to schedule appointments.
  • Follow HIPAA and other government/state PHI handling requirements.
  • May initiate reminder calls for next-day appointments.
  • Perform other related duties.
