Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a part-time Patient Access Clerk to register patients, verify insurance, obtain necessary authorizations, and coordinate scheduling with departments. The role requires attention to detail, accurate data entry, and strong communication with patients and staff.

The position involves navigating hospital systems, arranging deposits when needed, and managing schedule changes in a fast-paced environment to ensure smooth patient flow and timely care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Accurate spelling and attention to detail.
• Must key 40 wpm.
• Knowledge of patient registration, insurance, and hospital billing preferred.
• Medical terminology knowledge and understanding of third party reimbursement preferred.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills required.

Responsibilities

• Registers or pre-registers all scheduled patients for admission, partial hospitalization, and outpatient services.
• Verifies insurance coverage and obtains authorization for all services that requires authorization, pre-certification, and/or referral.
• Coordinates with patients and scheduling departments to reschedule procedures until authorization or patient payment can be arranged.
• Updates schedule for cancellations, rescheduling, and other changes on an ongoing basis.
