Job summary

Advocate Health is hiring a Patient Services Representative I to greet patients, collect demographic and insurance data, and guide them through registration and financial clearance. You will verify information, explain charges, collect liabilities, and refer patients needing financial counseling.

Responsibilities include processing walk-ins, scheduling follow-ups, and ensuring adherence to Medicare/Medicaid rules, HIPAA compliance, and pre-certification requirements as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in patient access (scheduling, registration and financial clearance), insurance verification, billing or certified medical assistant experience preferred.
• Knowledge of Medicare, HIPAA, EMTALA rules and updated insurance pre-certification requirements.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and monitor flow to ensure efficient and courteous care.
• Verify and update patient demographics and insurance information.
• Complete registration for walk-in patients and collect outstanding balances.
• Explain and collect patient out-of-pocket liabilities; refer eligible patients to Financial Counselor.
• Process visit closures and schedule follow-up appointments; provide required documents.
• Maintain knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid and third-party payer requirements, pre-authorization needs.
