Job summary

Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC seeks a part-time Registration Specialist to support the Enterprise Revenue Cycle operations. You will greet patients, verify eligibility, collect co-pays, and pre-register admissions while following AIDET standards and hospital policy.

You will explain insurance benefits, obtain demographic and financial information, and coordinate with Financial Counseling and Care Coordinators to resolve coverage issues.

Responsibilities

• Greet and acknowledge all patients and family members in a welcoming and prompt manner.
• Introduce patients to our services and set expectations while using appropriate etiquette.
• Explain the likely time spent in the service area (duration) including time in registration and time in clinical service.
• Explain the nature of our work, why we ask for demographic, socio-economic, and financial information, and how we safeguard their information.
• Hand-patients off to the next area with a clear "thank you."
• When creating new registrations for walk-in patients, identify insurance coverage, benefits, patient out-of-pocket expenses, and collect co-insurance and co-pays.
• Uses electronic systems to confirm coverage while patient is present and discuss findings with the patient; resolve eligibility issues within policy.
• Screen uninsured patients for charity and refer to Financial Counseling as appropriate. Engage leaders to resolve urgent vs non-urgent care questions.
• Pre-registers and registers patients using established procedures for computer entry for all units; prepare necessary documents/records.
• Ensure accurate entry of patient demographics and insurance information in the ADT system with careful carrier code assignment.
