Job summary

MUSC Health is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to support daily operations of the department, assist with scheduling, and train new hires. You will collect patient demographics, insurance data, and limited medical information, and handle approvals and authorizations with providers and insurers.

Strong communication and precise data entry are essential. In this role you will use hospital systems, assist patients and families, and help ensure privacy and accuracy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 1 year of customer service/healthcare experience or high school diploma with 3 years in customer service/healthcare.
• Experience with Windows, Excel, Access and intranet/internet navigation.
• Strong verbal, written, and problem-solving skills; ability to work in a self-directed manner.

Responsibilities

• Assist with department scheduling and monthly schedule preparation.
• Perform patient access functions using hospital systems and reference materials.
• Collect patient demographics, insurance, and limited medical information.
• Obtain signatures for consent and authorization; ensure patient privacy.
• Communicate with insurance companies and physician offices for certification/authorization.
• Provide onboarding and training for new hires; answer questions from patients and staff.
