Job summary

Responsibilities include EMTALA/HIPAA compliance, excellent customer service, accurate data entry, insurance verification, and coordinating transfers when needed. High school diploma required; bilingual English/Spanish preferred in some markets.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience is strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors is required.
• Fluency in English is required; bilingual in English/Spanish preferred in some markets.
• Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and other regulations in Admissions and medical records handling.
• Provide excellent customer service by understanding customer needs and building relationships.
• Identify and triage patients on arrival to ensure proper intake.
• Answer calls professionally and relay messages to appropriate staff.
• Obtain signatures on required forms and consents.
• Enter complete and accurate demographic information to support revenue cycle processing.
• Verify insurance benefits for plans and confirm correct payor and plan in the system.
• Obtain required insurance authorizations as applicable.
• Pursue collections at the time of service in a customer-focused manner.
• Scan and file registration and clinical documents into the system.
• Coordinate transfer of patients to other hospitals when necessary.
• Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians and hospitals.
• Maintain cash drawer according to policies.
• Maintain logs of patients, payments, transfers and admissions.
