Job summary

Emerus Holdings, Inc. is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to serve as a liaison between patients, families, payers, and the care team. You will obtain and verify demographic data, secure payments, and collect out-of-pocket responsibility to maximize hospital reimbursement.

Responsibilities include ensuring accurate patient identification, verifying benefits, obtaining authorizations, and processing registrations in the revenue cycle. Strong customer service and MS Office skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors required.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology.
• Excellent customer service.
• Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) preferred.
• Fluency in English; Spanish required in El Paso market.

Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and all regulations applicable to Admissions and Medical Records.
• Provide excellent customer service by understanding customer needs and building relationships.
• Identify and triage patients to protect safety at hospital intake.
• Answer calls professionally and relay messages to staff.
• Obtain signatures on forms and consents as required.
• Enter complete demographic information to facilitate revenue cycle processing.
• Verify insurance benefits and correct payor and plan in system.
• Obtain insurance authorizations as required by plans.
• Pursue collections at time of service to maximize cash collection.
• Scan and file registration and clinical documents.
• Coordinate patient transfers to other hospitals when needed.
• Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians and hospitals.
• Maintain cash drawer and log of patients, payments, transfers and admissions.
• Maintain visitor/vendor logs.
