Job summary

Emerus is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to serve as a liaison between patients, payers, and hospital teams. You will collect demographics, verify insurance, and secure out-of-pocket payments to maximize reimbursement.

Responsibilities include ensuring accurate patient data, facilitating revenue cycle steps, and coordinating transfers when needed. Strong English communication and preferred Spanish bilingual ability are required for applicable markets.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) required.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook) preferred.
• Must be fluent in English; bilingual in English/Spanish required in El Paso market.

Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and all regulations applicable to Admissions and medical records.
• Provide excellent customer service and build quality relationships.
• Identify and triage patients upon arrival to ensure safety.
• Answer phones professionally and relay messages to staff.
• Obtain signatures on forms and consents.
• Enter accurate demographic information to facilitate revenue cycle processing.
• Verify insurance benefits and correct payor/plan in the patient accounting system.
• Obtain necessary insurance authorizations where applicable.
• Pursue collections at the time of service in a customer-service oriented manner.
• Scan documents into the system and maintain medical records.
• Assist with patient transfers to other hospitals when needed.
• Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians, and hospitals.
• Maintain cash drawer and logs for patients, payments, transfers, and admissions.
• Maintain visitor/vendor logs.
