Job summary

Emerus is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to act as a liaison among patients, payers, and healthcare teams. You will verify demographics, secure payments, and maximize hospital reimbursement while upholding patient safety and accuracy in the revenue cycle.

Responsibilities include MS Office tasks, insurance verification, and ensuring proper patient identification on arrival, with a focus on excellent customer service and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting preferred.
• Fluency in English required; bilingual English/Spanish may be needed in certain markets.

Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and all regulations applicable to Admissions and Medical Records handling.
• Provide excellent customer service and build quality relationships with customers.
• Identify and triage patients upon arrival to ensure patient safety and proper identification.
• Handle telephone inquiries professionally and relay messages to medical staff.
• Obtain, verify, and enter complete demographic information to facilitate revenue cycle processing.
• Verify insurance benefits for plans and confirm correct payor and plan in patient accounting system.
• Obtain insurance authorizations as required by plans.
• Assist in collecting out-of-pocket payments at the point of service.
• Scan registration and clinical documents into the system and maintain medical records.
