Job summary

Emerus is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to act as a liaison between patients, payers, Patient Financial Services, and healthcare teams. You will collect demographic information, verify insurance benefits, and secure out-of-pocket responsibilities to maximize hospital reimbursement.

This full-time role requires attention to detail, excellent customer service, and compliance with EMTALA, HIPAA, and hospital policies. Bilingual skills are a plus in certain markets.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors required.
• Fluency in English; bilingual (English & Spanish) is a plus in some markets.

Responsibilities

• Maintain EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA compliance and handling of Medical Records.
• Provide excellent customer service and build quality relationships with customers.
• Identify and triage patients upon arrival to protect patient safety.
• Answer calls professionally and relay messages to medical staff.
• Obtain signatures on forms and consents; verify demographic information for accounts.
• Verify insurance benefits and obtain authorizations as required by plans.
• Pursue collections at the time of service in a customer-service oriented manner.
• Scan and file registration and clinical documents; maintain medical records.
• Coordinate patient transfers to other hospitals when needed.
• Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians and hospitals.
