Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Health in Texas seeks an Access Services Representative 2 to collect demographics and insurance information for patient registration. You verify benefits and collect patient financial responsibilities, cross-train across areas, and mentor peers.

You will contribute to efficient patient flow, accurate data capture, and collaborative problem solving within a busy healthcare setting.

Qualifications

• 2 years of healthcare or customer service experience or education equivalency.
• Excellent listening, interpersonal and communication skills with professional telephone etiquette.
• Maintain a professional demeanor in stressful environments including trauma or life/death situations.
• Exhibit high empathy and communicate well with patients and families.
• Ability to manage multiple, changing priorities effectively.
• Excellent data entry, numeric, typing and computer navigational skills.
• Basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Conduct and document patient interviews to gather demographic and financial data for registration, insurance verification, precertification and billing.
• Know patient flow processes in each area and assist as needed.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and revenue cycle functions while enhancing patient experience.
• Coordinate with other areas to provide information on delays and schedule changes.
• Verify insurance coverage and collect patient liability per policy and policies for existing or bad debt accounts.
• Establish patient deposits and negotiate payment arrangements where necessary.
• Possibly perform cashiering duties following policies; may comprise a significant portion of responsibilities.
• Assist patients to nursing units with directions or mobility assistance when needed.
• Adhere to compliance for order validation, cash policy, government payors, and patient safety.
• Provide formal training and act as a resource to others.
• Accept new responsibilities and perform revenue cycle duties across locations as assigned.
