Job summary

Mercy is seeking a Patient Access Representative to be the first point of contact for patients, ensuring compassionate service and adherence to Mercy Service Standards. The role covers scheduling, registration, benefit verification, pre-certification, and financial clearance, with a focus on accurate data collection and clear communication of patient financial responsibility.

Knowledge of insurance plans and terminology, plus ability to work across departments, is essential.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years clerical experience and customer service preferred.
• Experience with medical terminology and insurance plans preferred.
• High School diploma required; some college helpful.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Assist with scheduling, registration, benefit verification, pre-certification and financial clearance.
• Collect and verify patient data and ensure accuracy in the patient record.
• Explain financial responsibilities and available payment options to patients.
• Document outcomes of financial conversations and referrals.
• Coordinate with insurance carriers, Medicare guidelines and accrediting agencies.
