Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Creates the initial electronic health record that serves as the foundation of the patient medical record. Prevents duplicates to ensure patient safety and accurate billing.
• Checks in and registers patients; verifies demographic, guarantor, and insurance information; discusses and collects co-pays.
• Knows insurance basics and determines when a financial responsibility notice is needed; refers patients to Financial Advocates as needed.
• Understands HIPAA, EMTALA, and other regulations; ensures required signatures are obtained.
• May schedule appointments and provide patients with pre-visit instructions and directions.
• Greets patients and visitors, answers phones, and assists with transportation, directions, and interpreter services.
• Monitors electronic health record queues and follows department procedures.
