Job summary

Atrium Health is seeking a Patient Access/Registration Specialist to support front desk operations. You will create and verify patient records, collect demographics and insurance information, discuss co-pays, and help patients understand their financial responsibilities.

You will protect patient privacy under HIPAA and work closely with care teams. In this role you will use EPIC EMR, assist with scheduling, and coordinate with financial advocates to ensure smooth care delivery and timely

Qualifications

• HIPAA, EMTALA, and related patient rights regulations knowledge and application.
• Ability to educate patients on insurance coverage and discuss financial obligations.
• Ability to handle cash transactions and payments securely.
• Confidential handling of patient information in line with HIPAA.
• Strong problem-solving and triage abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Coordinate with physicians and staff to resolve issues.
• Familiarity with insurance verification/eligibility tools.
• Proficient with computer systems and office software.
• Work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Creates the initial electronic health record that serves as the foundation of the patient medical record utilized by all care team members.
• Checks in and registers patients; collects demographic, guarantor, and insurance information; discusses co-pays and out-of-pocket responsibilities.
• Knows plans Advocate Health contracts with and when a financial responsibility statement is needed; refers patients to Financial Advocates when appropriate.
• Ensures compliance with HIPAA, EMTALA, and related regulations; obtains required signatures.
• Schedules patient appointments and coordinates test preparations, arrivals, and directions to the facility.
• Delivers welcoming, professional customer service; answers calls, screens messages, and assists patients with transportation or interpreter needs.
• Monitors and processes electronic health record work queues according to department procedures.
