Job summary

Emerus Holdings, Inc. is seeking a Patient Access Specialist for a day shift in a full-time role. You will facilitate patient tracking and billing, verify demographics, secure payments, and maximize hospital reimbursement.

The ideal candidate has 2 years of patient registration/insurance verification experience, knowledge of diverse insurance plans, and strong customer service. English is required; Spanish is beneficial in El Paso market.

Qualifications

• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology.
• Excellent customer service.
• MS Office (MS Word, Excel and Outlook) familiarity preferred.
• Fluency in English; in El Paso market, English & Spanish required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA compliance in Admissions and medical records handling.
• Provide excellent customer service and build relationships with customers.
• Identify and triage patients for safety upon arrival at the hospital.
• Answer telephone professionally and relay messages to medical staff.
• Obtain signatures on required forms and consents.
• Enter complete demographic information to facilitate revenue cycle processing.
• Verify insurance benefits and ensure correct payor and plan in patient accounting system.
• Obtain insurance authorizations as required by plans.
• Pursue timely collections at the point of service with good customer service.
• Scan registration and clinical docs into the system and maintain medical records.
• Coordinate patient transfers to other hospitals when needed.
• Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians, and hospitals.
• Maintain cash drawer and logs for patients, payments, transfers, and admissions.
