Emerus Holdings, Inc. is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to serve as a liaison between patients, payers and hospital teams, collecting demographic information and securing out‑of‑pocket payments to maximize hospital reimbursement.

The role requires EMTALA/HIPAA compliance, strong customer service, and accurate data entry. English proficiency is required; bilingual Spanish is a plus for El Paso market. This is a on‑site PRN position.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors required.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology.
• Excellent customer service.
• MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) proficiency preferred.
• Fluency in English; written and oral communication required.
• Fluency in both English & Spanish is required in the El Paso Market.
• PA Act 33/Act 73 Clearances completed within last 5 years or before start date.

Responsibilities

• Maintain EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA compliance in Admissions and medical records.
• Provide excellent customer service and build relationships with patients.
• Identify and triage patients on arrival to the hospital.
• Answer telephone professionally and relay messages to staff.
• Obtain signatures on forms and consents.
• Enter accurate demographic information to facilitate revenue cycle processing.
• Verify insurance benefits and payor/plan details in the patient accounting system.
• Obtain required insurance authorizations.
• Maximize collections at the time of service in a customer-focused manner.
• Scan and maintain medical records; coordinate patient transfers when needed.
• Respond to medical record requests; maintain logs and cash drawer.
• Maintain a clean front desk/waiting area and assist with meetings/duties as needed.
