Job summary

Southern-California-Hospital is seeking a Patient Access Rep I to facilitate the admission of inpatients and outpatients. You will collect accurate patient information and inform patients about hospital policies and procedures.

The role requires strong customer service, English communication, and computer literacy with attention to detail. Sign-on bonus available for experienced full-time staff.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• One year of customer service experience.
• Basic Understanding of Medical Terminology.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Strong time management skills.
• Ability to multitask and maintain a workload-appropriate pace.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Computer literacy and proficiency.
• Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
• Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card within 30 days of hire date (Hollywood and Van Nuys only).

Responsibilities

• Registers all patients according to department procedures. Completes admission forms accurately and thoroughly.
• Verifies medical record status using Master Patient Index and ensures accurate patient information.
• Prepares financial folder and distributes copies to appropriate departments.
• Ensures accounts are billable and pre-certification requirements are met.
• Contacts physician offices to obtain pre-admission information as needed.
• Ensures required authorization for scheduled procedures and explains hospital payment policies.
• Collects payments and issues receipts; handles identification and insurance cards during admission.
• Verifies insurance coverage and eligibility; ensures identification bracelets are issued at admission.
• Operates PBX and answers calls, transferring to appropriate departments.
• Performs paging via hospital systems and announces emergency codes as required.
• Ensures physicians are authorized to admit patients and refers delinquent physicians.
• Provides a safe environment and maintains confidentiality of patients, families, employees, and visitors.
