Job summary

Mercy Hospital is seeking a Patient Access Representative to be the first point of contact with patients, ensuring exceptional customer service aligned with Mercy values. The role encompasses scheduling, registration, benefit verification, pre-certification, and financial clearance, while collecting and communicating patient financial responsibilities.

Candidates should have 1-3 years of clerical and customer service experience, basic medical terminology knowledge, and a high school diploma

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; telephone etiquette.
• Establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, physicians, hospital staff and insurance companies.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines with accuracy.
• Experience with medical terminology and insurance plans is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Schedule, register, verify benefits, pre-certify and obtain financial clearance for patients.
• Collect patient financial responsibility before or at service and explain payment options.
• Document outcomes of financial conversations and coordinate with relevant departments.
