Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is seeking a Laboratory Assistant - Pathological Admin - Part Time, Days to support Clinical Labs. The role involves clinical and clerical tasks, specimen processing, inventory management, and communication with providers and other labs.

You will assist the Pathology Department with morgue duties, record keeping, and handling of bodies as assigned, while maintaining safety and policy compliance. Strong Excel/Word skills and basic biology knowledge preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma with 12 college credits in biology or chemistry.
• Laboratory experience handling blood and body fluids.
• Proficiency in Excel and Word.
• Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist lab staff with daily operations, specimen handling, inventory, and instrument maintenance.
• Support pathology dept in morgue duties, records, and body receipt.
• Maintain general lab supplies and department reagents; notify supervisor when needed.
• Receive, document, and store lab materials per NYU policies.
• Prepare samples for analysis, including labeling, centrifugation, and transport.
• Process samples for storage and disposal according to policy.
• Clean work surfaces and equipment per protocols.
• Maintain logs for temperature, humidity, and eye wash stations.
• Assist with reviewing pending lists and retrieving missed tests.
• Answer calls and provide test requirements and status information.
