Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is seeking a Laboratory Assistant - Histology for the Evening shift. The role supports day-to-day lab operations, specimen handling, inventory management, and coordination with providers and other laboratories.

Responsibilities include morgue maintenance, sample processing, shipping to other sites, and maintaining logs of temperature/humidity. Strong clerical and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High School diploma with 12 college credits in biology or chemistry.
• Laboratory experience handling blood and body fluids.
• Proficiency in Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

• Assist lab staff with daily operations, including specimen management and inventory.
• Maintain morgue records and handle body receipts.
• Ensure supplies and reagents are stocked; receive and document deliveries.
• Process samples, prep for analysis, and ship to other sites.
• Maintain temperature/humidity logs and clean work surfaces.
• Answer phones and assist with test availability and TAT.
• Review pending lists and retrieve missed tests.
• Handle shipping of blood and body fluids.
• Inventory management of blood products.
• Other duties as assigned.
