Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk is seeking a Laboratory Assistant - Histology for our Day shift. You will assist the Clinical Labs-Histology team with daily lab operations, specimen management, instrument care, and inventory control to support accurate testing and timely results.

The role includes handling bodies with proper procedures, maintaining logs, and coordinating with providers. A background in biology/chemistry and basic computer skills are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma with 12 college credits in biology or chemistry.
• Laboratory experience handling blood and body fluids.
• Proficiency with basic computer applications including Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

• Assist lab staff in daily operations, specimen management, inventory, and instrument maintenance.
• Support pathology by handling bodies and morgue records as assigned.
• Maintain general and department supplies; notify supervisor when stock is low.
• Process samples front and back end, including labeling, centrifuging, and storage.
• Dispose of regulated waste and clean work surfaces per protocols.
• Log temperature, humidity, and equipment checks; retrieve missed tests.
• Answer calls; provide test availability and turnaround time information.
• Access automated platforms to check test status and ship specimens as needed.
• Assist with blood product inventory and other duties as assigned.
