Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is seeking a Laboratory Assistant - Histology for part-time, day shift. The role supports the Clinical Labs-Histology team with specimen handling, processing, inventory and routine maintenance, and coordination with providers and other laboratories.

Responsibilities include assisting in daily lab operation, maintaining logs, processing samples for analysis, shipping to other sites, and ensuring proper storage and disposal of materials.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma with 12 college credits in biology or chemistry.
• Laboratory experience including handling open containers of blood and body fluids.
• Knowledge of computer applications especially Excel and Word.
• Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist lab staff with day-to-day laboratory operations, including specimen management/processing and inventory management.
• Support the Pathology Department with receipt of bodies and morgue-related duties.
• Maintain supplies and communicate needs to supervisor.
• Ensure proper receipt and storage of laboratory materials per policy.
• Assist with front-end processing of samples for analysis (labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting).
• Perform back-end processing for storage, tracking, and disposal of samples.
• Dispose of regulated medical/biological/chemical waste.
• Clean work surfaces and equipment per protocol.
• Maintain temperature/humidity logs for equipment and work areas.
