Job summary

Sur La Table in Portland is seeking a Chef Instructor, Pastry to lead in-store pastry classes and share specialized techniques. You will guide customers through baking fundamentals, showcase decorating methods, and promote related bakeware products, while upholding our high service standards.

Ideal candidates bring 1–2 years in kitchen operations, a culinary degree or equivalent experience, and a valid Food Manager Certification. Flexible hours and a team-focused environment await.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years or older at time of employment.
• Degree in culinary arts preferred; extensive culinary experience may substitute.
• 1–2 years kitchen operations experience.
• Valid Food Manager Certification.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
• Passion for community engagement and providing exceptional customer experiences.

Responsibilities

• Represent Sur La Table’s brand by creating memorable, educational pastry experiences.
• Lead pastry classes and drive enrollment and sales of bakeware, mixers, and decorating tools.
• Explain technical pastry concepts in a clear, encouraging way.
• Stay current on products through training and independent learning.
• Assist with class setup, mise en place, and cleanup.
