Job summary

The Salvation Army North & Central Illinois Division in Gary, Indiana seeks a Social Worker to provide compassionate case management and emergency assistance in crisis situations, helping fulfill the organization's mission without discrimination.

Responsibilities include interviewing clients, assessing eligibility for emergency aid and Pathway of Hope, developing individualized plans, maintaining confidential files, leading the Corps Emergency Food Pantry, and coordinating with partner agencies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, or related field (preferred) or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of one year experience in case management or social services; familiarity with food pantry operations preferred.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and complete Safe From Harm and Caseworker Certification programs within specified timeframes.

Responsibilities

• Interview clients to determine need.
• Assess eligibility for emergency assistance and Pathway of Hope services.
• Develop individualized client assistance plans.
• Provide referrals to community agencies and resources; connect with community organizations.
• Maintain confidentiality of all client records and information.
• Lead and maintain the Corps Emergency Food Pantry.
• Conduct outreach feeding programs for community members in need.
• Support Angel Tree, Christmas and Back-to-School programs.
• Create and update client files in the SIMS database.
• Collaborate with Pathway of Hope caseworkers for coordinated care.
• Monitor and document client progress and outcomes in Pathway of Hope.
• Other tasks as assigned by leadership.
