Job summary

The Salvation Army USA Central Territory is seeking a Social Worker to provide compassionate case management and emergency assistance to individuals and families in crisis within Gary, Indiana. You will work as part of a faith-based community service team to meet human needs in His name.

Responsibilities include intake interviews, eligibility assessments, developing assistance plans, referrals, maintaining client records, and coordinating with Pathway of Hope colleagues.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, or related field (preferred); or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of one year experience in case management, client assistance, or social services; familiarity with food pantry operations and emergency assistance preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment. Must complete Caseworker Certification Program within 120 days of employment.
  • Ability to speak, write and understand English effectively for communication with leadership, field personnel, and clients.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems.
  • Cultural sensitivity with an interest in providing direct services to persons of various ethnic, racial, religious, and social backgrounds.

  • Monitor and document client progress and outcomes in Pathway of Hope program
  • Other tasks as assigned by leadership

Job Description:

As the Social Worker you will provide compassionate case management and emergency assistance to individuals and families in crisis, ensuring that the Mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out.

What You Will Do:

  • Maintain confidentiality of all client records and information

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, or related field (preferred); or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Background Checks

Position requires a background check to be completed, and all background check results will be reviewed.

Experience

Minimum of one year experience in case management, client assistance, or social services; familiarity with food pantry operations and emergency assistance preferred.

Certifications

  • Problem solving skills including Assessment, Service Planning, Material Assistance, Resource Development and Networking, Referral and Linkage, Follow-up and Documentation.

  • Capacity to collaborate with Corps, Family & Community Services and Emergency Disaster Services.
  • A strong commitment to promote and uphold the mission of The Salvation Army and an appreciation for faith-based service organizations.
  • Able to work with other agencies to refer clients to within the community.
