Job summary

IU Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCA) to deliver compassionate bedside care. Responsibilities include assisting with meals, mobility, hygiene, and comfort; providing clean linens; and supporting the bedside RN by obtaining vital signs and reporting changes promptly.

The role emphasizes safety, infection control, and ability to work in a fast-paced hospital environment. Part-time day shifts are available with opportunities for development and tuition reimbursement.

Qualifications

• Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or completion of IU Health PCA program.
• Knowledge of care appropriate to the age and developmental level of patients served.
• Up-to-date knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
• Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to withstand high levels of tension and stress.
• Ability to maintain concentration amid interruptions and noise.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage heavy workloads.
• Knowledge of patient care procedures and equipment used by non-licensed roles.
• Knowledge of infection control principles.
• Ability to perform physically demanding, repetitive movements.
• Ability to read and perform basic math.
• Ability to organize tasks and attend to details.
• Knowledge of good personal hygiene and aseptic techniques.

Responsibilities

• Provide drinks and assist with meal ordering and feeding.
• Assist with walking and mobility; provide baths and hygiene assistance.
• Provide clean linens and gowns; maintain patient comfort and dignity.
• Obtain vital signs and report abnormalities to RN or charge nurse.
• Maintain patient safety using gait belts, bed/chair alarms, and close proximity during movement.
