Job summary

IU Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCA) to provide compassionate bedside care and support to patients and the care team. The PCA will help with drinks, meals, mobility encouragement, baths, and linens while assisting the bedside RN with vital signs and safety protocols on a fast-paced unit.

The role emphasizes compassionate patient interaction, adherence to infection control, and effective communication with the care team.

Qualifications

• Requires current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Ability to provide care appropriate to the age and developmental level of patients.
• Familiarity with infection control principles and aseptic technique.
• Ability to read and perform basic math and to organize tasks with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Provide drinks, assist with meal ordering, encourage walking, assist with baths, and deliver clean linens and gowns to patients.
• Obtain vital signs and report abnormalities or changes to the bedside RN or charge nurse.
• Support bedside care by using gait belts and alarms to keep patients safe and within arm's reach.
• Assist with non-clinical tasks to ensure a phenomenal patient experience and smooth unit operations.
