Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience in patient registration procedures, medical terminology, medical office functions, Excel, Microsoft Office.
• Prefer prior work experience with insurance verification.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, hospital personnel, physicians, and other customers.
• Must type 45 wpm.
• Must exhibit good telephone skills.

Responsibilities

• Identify insurances requiring authorization and obtain authorization prior to patient admission.
• Obtain information via fax, telephone or online sources.
• Record information for staff use in Excel spreadsheets and other systems.
• Coordinate with surgery schedule for admission and ensure pre-certs and insurance verification are complete.
• Assign beds and coordinate patient transfers per established guidelines.
• Document room assignments and maintain transfer documentation.
• Coordinate courtesy discharges for nursing units.
• Update patient status in systems for accurate billing.
• Notify cashier/financial counseling of self-pay patients for upfront arrangements.
