Job summary

Baptist Health in Kentucky is seeking a part-time Patient Admissions Clerk for one night shift per week (12 weekly hours, 6:15 PM–6:45 AM) including holidays and weekends. This role ensures reservations, pre-cert information, and bed assignments for medical/surgical and monitored units.

You will verify insurance coverage, collect copays, coordinate with Case Management and nursing units, and document admissions status.

Qualifications

• A. High school diploma or equivalent preferred; experience in patient registration procedures, medical terminology, Excel, and computer use.
• B. Prefer prior work experience with insurance verification.
• C. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, hospital personnel, physicians, and other customers.
• D. Must maintain a courteous and helpful attitude and work well with departments.
• E. Must stay calm under pressure due to bed shortages.
• F. Must be experienced with office machines and typing 45 wpm.
• G. Must have strong telephone skills.

Responsibilities

• Identifies all insurances requiring authorization and obtain authorization prior to admission.
• Coordinates reservations with surgery schedule and pre-admission processes.
• Assigns beds and rooms following established guidelines; communicates beds needed with Environmental Services, Transportation and care units.
• Notifies cashier/financial counseling of self-pay arrangements and coordinates pre-admission financials.
• Updates patient status and room assignments in tracking systems daily for accurate billing and bed management.
