Job summary

LensCrafters in Chicago seeks an Optometric Technician to ensure high-quality eye care and a seamless patient experience during exams.

The role involves assisting with patient flow, performing pre-exam tests, managing records, and supporting the Optometrist. Requires 2+ years in optometry/healthcare, knowledge of optical terms, and strong communication skills. Availability for weekends/evenings may be required.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• 2+ years’ experience in optometry, ophthalmology or healthcare setting.
• Knowledge of optical and medical terminology.
• Understanding and utilization of optical equipment and diagnostic testing.

Responsibilities

• Assists with patient care and eye exams, including managing patient records and supporting patient flow throughout the exam.
• Performs various tests to aid the optometrist with vision examinations including visual acuity measurements, depth and color perception tests, and retinal imaging.
• Performs tests to aid the optometrist in accurate diagnosis and treatment in appropriate time frame.
• Reviews prescriptions and patient information carefully; identifies special needs; consults with Optometrist/Optician/Practice Manager when necessary.
• Identifies dissatisfied patients and acts quickly for resolution.
• Maintains accuracy under time pressure and patient volume.
• Files patient records according to HIPAA and practice standards.
• Supports contact lens exams and orders, including care and patient orders.
• Operates appointment book/scheduling and POS system; handles sales transactions when needed.
• Maintains safe working environment and adheres to policies.
• Supports visual merchandising in exam lanes and contact lens area.
• Adapts to various exam scenarios and stays personable with patients and staff.
• Performs pre-examination testing with accuracy; explains measurements to patients.
• Maintains and disinfection of equipment; provides clinical support to Optometrist as needed.
• Willing to work weekends and evenings as needed.
