Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools in Washington state is seeking a 1:1 paraeducator to support a first-grade student with a range of disabilities in a self-contained classroom. The role requires completing the General Paraeducator Certificate and 28 hours of district training within the first months of hire.

The position involves assisting with instructional activities, providing daily living support, and ensuring a safe, supportive learning environment.

Qualifications

• State-mandated General Paraeducator Certificate required.
• Completion of 28 hours of training within four months of hire.
• Assist students with daily living and behavioral needs.
• Work with a 1st grade student in a self-contained classroom.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction to students individually or in small groups as directed by the teacher.
• Assist with self-care activities and daily living tasks as required.
• Supervise students during recess, lunch, and bus loading/unloading.
• Document student progress and communicate with classroom staff and families as assigned.
• Follow district policies for safety, discipline and instruction.
