Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools is seeking a paraeducator to provide one-on-one and small group support to a Grade 2 student with a disability throughout the school day.

The role involves assisting a certificated teacher with instructional and daily living activities, implementing individualized plans, and ensuring a safe learning environment. Training and certification in paraeducation are required within specified timelines.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or 72 credit hours of post-secondary education or passing state test; demonstrates ability to assist in instruction.
• Experience working with students with disabilities preferred but not required.
• State requires General Paraeducator Certificate; program provides standards-based training.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction to students individually or in small groups under teacher direction; assist with learning activities and maintain safe environment.
• Assist with self-care activities and classroom routines; monitor student safety and behavior.
• Supervise students during recess, lunch, and bus loading/unloading; support transportation as needed.
• Record student progress, communicate with teachers and families, and help track IEP goals and behaviors.
