Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools in Washington state seeks a paraeducator to support students with disabilities in kindergarten settings. The role includes instructional support, data collection, and daily living assistance as part of a certificated teacher team.

Requires completion of the General Paraeducator Certificate; district training and professional development are provided. This position is 0.8125 FTE (6.5 hours/day) over 183 work days per year with full benefits.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or 72 credit hours (or passing state test) is required.
• Experience with students with disabilities preferred.
• Ability to assist in instruction and data recording.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction to students individually or in small groups as directed by the teacher.
• Assist with self-care activities and health-related tasks.
• Supervise students during recess, lunch, and transitions; assist in bus loading/unloading.
• Record student progress and prepare reports to assist the teacher.
• Support students with disabilities and implement adaptive materials.
• Assist with meals and classroom cleanup.
• Model appropriate behavior and support classroom management.
• Assist in adapting materials and administering tests using adaptive equipment.
• Attend staff meetings and share information.
• Coordinate computer activities and troubleshoot equipment.
• Maintain attendance and help schedule activities.
• Address concerns with teachers and therapy staff as appropriate.
