Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools is seeking a paraeducator to support instructional and personal care needs for students with disabilities in a 1:1 role assigned to a 6th-grade student. Training includes completion of the General Paraeducator Certificate, with District-required hours within set timelines.

Responsibilities include supporting instruction, monitoring safety, and assisting with daily living activities, under the supervision of a certificated teacher. Benefits are provided for ESP staff.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or 72 credit hours of post-secondary education.
• One year of experience working with students with disabilities is preferred.
• Must complete the General Paraeducator Certificate with required staff training as outlined by the district.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction to students individually or in small groups as directed.
• Assist with activities of daily living and personal care needs for students.
• Monitor safety and supervise students during recess, lunch, and transit.
• Record student progress and communicate with teachers and parents as assigned.
• Assist in adapting materials and facilitating learning in general education settings.
