Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools is seeking a 1:1 paraeducator for a 7th grade student in a self-contained classroom. The role involves assisting a certificated teacher with instructional and personal care needs for students with disabilities, and requires completion of the General Paraeducator Certificate.

The position is 0.8125 FTE, 6.5 hours per day, 183 work days per year, with a full range of district benefits and required training within specified timelines.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or 72 credit hours or equivalent experience.
• General Paraeducator Certificate required; state standards-based training available.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction to students individually or in small groups.
• Assist with daily living activities and personal care as needed.
• Supervise students during recess and meals.
• Record student progress and communicate with the classroom team.
• Maintain safety and adapt materials as directed by teachers.
• Assist with standardized tests and field trips.
• Support classroom management and behavior guidance.
• Liaise with parents/guardians as assigned.
