Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools is hiring a paraeducator to support a 1:1 assignment in a first grade self-contained classroom. The role involves instructional support, data collection, and student supervision under teacher guidance.

The position requires completion of the General Paraeducator Certificate and district-mandated training, with 28 hours of FCS training within specified timelines. CPR/First Aid certification is expected or willingness to obtain it.

Qualifications

• Certificate: General Paraeducator Certificate; required training and timelines.
• Associate degree or 72 college credit hours and experience working with students with disabilities.
• CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to be trained within 90 days.
• Background clearance (fingerprints) and district training requirements.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and assist with activities of daily living.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction to students individually or in groups as directed by the teacher.
• Record student progress and maintain data for IEP goals.
• Supervise students during breaks and transitions; assist in classroom management.
• Assist certificated staff with instructional activities and behavioral support.
• Support students with disabilities in daily living activities and mobility as needed.
