Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools is seeking a paraeducator to provide one-on-one support to a Grade 2 student with a disability and assist a certificated teacher with instructional and day-to-day activities during the school day.

The position requires completion of the General Paraeducator Certificate, training hours, and capable delivery of academic interventions. It involves a range of duties from instructional support to daily living assistance and transport coordination within a school setting.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or 72 credit hours or passing state test to demonstrate knowledge and ability to assist in instructing students.
• CPR/First Aid certification and willingness to be trained within 90 days.
• Knowledge of safe lifting and positioning methods for students.
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students and families.

Responsibilities

• Provides instruction to students individually or in small groups per teacher direction and supports safe learning environments.
• May assist with self-care activities and daily living tasks as needed.
• Supervises students during recess, lunch, and bus transitions and supports classroom routines.
• Maintains student progress records and communicates with teachers and families as assigned.
• Participates in staff meetings and assists in adapting materials for students with disabilities.
• Assists in administering tests and using adaptive equipment to meet student needs.
• Meets district expectations for attendance and professional conduct.
