Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps is seeking entry-level members to coach and mentor students across elementary to high school. You will help improve academic success, attendance, and behavior while planning and monitoring progress with teachers.

Training is provided at start, and you will collaborate with school staff to implement engaging programs and support City Year initiatives. This is a full-time AmeriCorps position based in U.S. schools.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
• Be 17–25 by July 1, 2025.
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree.
• Have served no more than three AmeriCorps terms.
• Agree to a background check.
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025.

Responsibilities

• Work with identified students 1:1 and in small groups.
• Develop literacy and/or math skills with varied activities by student level.
• Create and implement a behavior management system for students.
• Develop interpersonal skills through learning, practice and reflection.
• Collaborate with teachers to monitor student progress in City Year’s data system.
• Create an engaging, safe classroom space with the teacher.
• Support extended day and virtual programming before, during and after school.
• Co-lead events recognizing student growth in math, literacy, attendance and behavior.
