Job summary

Volunteers of America Colorado is seeking a Shelter Coordinator to support Denver-area shelters. The role covers housing stability, safety, front desk duties, and participant coordination with a focus on trauma-informed care.

The position requires an associate degree or equivalent experience, 1 year in human services, background checks, and a valid Colorado driver’s license. Shift coverage includes overnight hours and multiple Denver locations.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in a related area or equivalent human services experience.
• One year of direct human services experience.
• Willing to obtain first aid, AED, CPR and Narcan training.
• Criminal and civil background checks required within 30 days of hire.
• Colorado driver’s license and automobile insurance; personal vehicle for travel.

Responsibilities

• Ensure participants voices are heard and inform programming decisions.
• Maintain safety and wellbeing of participants and de-escalate conflicts.
• Document participant interactions and eligibility data; use Service Point/HMIS systems.
• Coordinate with staff and volunteers; assist in training shifts.
• Oversee facility maintenance and front desk duties; support meal and cleaning tasks.
• Comply with ethics and program standards; perform other duties as assigned.
