Job summary

Carter Lumber is seeking an Outside Sales Representative to build and maintain relationships with local contractors and builders. You will sell a full line of building materials and installed services, manage projects after sale, and keep customer data up to date.

Responsibilities include visiting job sites, developing estimates, and reading blueprints. The role emphasizes strong communication, follow-through, and the ability to work independently within a dynamic market.

Qualifications

• Experience in sales and relationship building with contractors and builders.
• Knowledge of home building basics for accurate material guidance.
• Create material estimates/quotes and process special orders.
• Open new accounts monthly or quarterly to grow market presence.
• Learn to read blueprints and provide material take-off lists.
• Ability to work independently and meet targets with minimal supervision.
• Strong planning and organizational skills for multi-site coordination.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office suite for reporting and proposals.
• Attend HBA/builder/company functions as required.

Responsibilities

• Sell our full line of building materials and installed services to local contractors and remodelers.
• Manage sales relationships after job is won and provide ongoing support.
• Collect and update customer product use data and trends.
• Visit job sites as needed and maintain visit schedules.
• Respond to quotes and ensure timely follow-ups; coordinate with yards and dispatch.
