Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a patient services associate for an outpatient unit. You will serve as the primary contact for patients and visitors, delivering courteous, clear information and guiding them through check-in, appointment scheduling, and check-out processes.

Reporting to the manager with input from physicians, nurses and other care team members, you will help maintain smooth patient flow while safeguarding confidentiality and privacy in all communications and records handling.

Qualifications

• Written and verbal communication skills to interact with patients, families and staff.
• Ability to follow safety and privacy guidelines in a healthcare setting.
• Basic computer navigation and data entry skills.
• Familiarity with handling medical information and patient interactions.

Responsibilities

• Communicates with and assists patients and the public by phone and in person in a courteous, helpful manner.
• Prepares schedules, medical records and other documents per quality standards.
• Maintains patient confidentiality at all times and protects sensitive information.
• Performs check-in, registration and verification of demographic and financial information.
• Confirms prior authorizations, referrals and pre-certifications for insurance and plans.
• Collects required co-payments according to standards.
• Directs patients to next service area and monitors flow to ensure timely service.
• Processes check-out and schedules follow-up appointments and related tests.
• Provides educational materials as indicated.
• Enters visit billing tickets.
