Job summary

Masonicare in Wallingford, CT is seeking a Day Shift Intake Clerk for 16 hours per week to manage outpatient services intake, scheduling, and pre-registration. You will process orders, verify insurance, obtain authorizations, prepare paperwork, and coordinate transportation for patients and residents.

The role supports physicians and long-term care residents, maintains HIPAA compliance, registers patients on arrival, and collaborates with multiple departments.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Graduate.
• Experience: 1-2 years office/medical experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs initial request for outpatient services intake including pre-registration and scheduling.
• Reviews insurance information and verifies with patient including payment options.
• Verifies insurance coverage with third party payors. Obtains pre-authorization when needed.
• Prepares all necessary paperwork in advance, and obtains medical records.
• Arranges transportation requests as needed for scheduled visits and for Masonicare community residents/patients who have referred medical appointments elsewhere.
• Schedules and coordinates patient appointments for long-term care residents and Outpatients.
• Adjusts schedules, as needed, to accommodate patient/resident requests and/or physician or staff schedules.
• Establishes and maintains patient files and records on an ongoing basis.
• Maintains HIPAA compliance at all times.
• Registers residents/patients on arrival, coordinates and/or monitors flow of patients for various clinics, utilizing aids and volunteers.
• Communicates effectively and tactfully with residents/patients recognizing their age, needs, abilities and physical conditions.
• Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.
• Maintains a working knowledge of Medicare regulations as it pertains to Outpatient Services.
• Works within established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assessment and improvement programs, safety, environmental and infection control.
• Communicates with other departments, physician offices and long-term care units to maintain effective working relationships.
• Performs other duties as required.
