Job summary

AEG in New York is seeking an Optometric Technician to support our Optometrists and deliver high-quality patient care. You will perform pre-testing, assist with specialty diagnostic testing, and help manage the doctor’s appointment schedule to ensure efficient, high-quality patient experiences from check-in to check-out.

The role includes documenting medical findings in the EHR, coordinating referrals, and assisting with instruments and contact lens procedures, while maintaining HIPAA compliance

Qualifications

• Experience evaluating patients for eye exams and dispensing eye exam medications.
• Familiarity with medical terms associated with eye treatment.
• Experience maintaining patients’ records / files per HIPAA regulations.
• Industry certification (CPO, CPOA, CPOT).

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary evaluations before exams (dilation, topical meds, Optomap, etc.).
• Schedules referrals and completes paperwork.
• Maintains patient records in compliance with HIPAA.
• Responds to patient inquiries regarding medications and treatment.
• Records and documents findings in EHR and assists with medical documentation.
• Ensures schedule utilization with reminders and recalls, and reschedules no-shows.
• Assists with contact lens insertion/removal and orders.
• End-of-day duties including schedule wrap-up.
