Job summary

AEG is seeking an Optometric Technician to support ophthalmology services. You’ll conduct pre‑testing, assist with diagnostic testing, and help manage the doctor’s schedule to ensure efficient, high‑quality patient care.

You’ll perform preliminary evaluations, document medical findings, maintain patient records in EHR, respond to patient inquiries, and coordinate referrals as needed, all while adhering to HIPAA and teamwork values.

Qualifications

• Experience evaluating patients for eye exams and dispensing eye exam medications.
• Familiarity with medical terms associated with eye treatment.
• Experience maintaining patients’ records / files per HIPAA regulations.

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary evaluations of patients prior to exam by the Optometrist.
• Performs verbal interview with patient prior to visit with Optometrist to determine medical issues.
• May be required to schedule referral appointments with Ophthalmologists, Diagnostic follow‑up visits, and other specialty referrals.
• Records and maintain patient records / files in compliance with HIPAA.
• Responds to patient telephone inquiries regarding medication, treatment, problems referring to the Optometrist as necessary.
• May be required to perform diagnostic testing using specialty equipment (OCT, Visual Field, Pachymetry, Retinal Camera).
• Documents medical findings and communication between Optometrist and patient in Electronic Health Records(EHR).
• Ensures that maximum schedule utilization occurs through pre‑appointment confirmation and recall outreach.
• Performs contact lens insertion and removal classes and manages contact lens orders.
• Performs end‑of‑day wrap‑up and checklist.
• Cleans and organizes frames and office area.
