Job summary

AEG is seeking an Optometric Technician to support Optometrists and ensure a high-quality patient experience. You will conduct pre-testing, assist with specialty testing, and manage the doctor’s schedule to keep visits efficient.

You will perform preliminary evaluations, interview patients, and help with referrals, documentation, and coding in the EHR system. The role includes end-of-day tasks and staying organized in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• Experience evaluating patients for eye exams and dispensing eye exam medications.
• Familiarity with medical terms associated with eye treatment.
• Industry certification (CPO, CPOA, CPOT).

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary evaluations of patients prior to exam by the Optometrist, such as dilation, topicals, diagnostic medications, Optomap, auto reflector, visual acuity, etc.
• Interviews patients prior to visit to determine medical issues for the Optometrist.
• Schedule referral appointments and complete paperwork as needed.
• Maintain patient records in compliance with HIPAA.
• Respond to patient inquiries regarding medication and treatment.
• Perform diagnostic testing using specialty equipment (OCT, Visual Field, Pachymetry, Retinal Camera).
• Document medical findings in EHR and assist with medical documentation tasks.
• Ensure schedule utilization through confirmations and recalls.
• Manage contact lens orders and inventory, including fittings and take-home orders.
• End-of-day wrap-up and maintain cleanliness of the practice.
