Job summary

AEG Vision is seeking an Optometric Technician to support optometrist-led patient care at our Carmel-by-the-Sea location. You will assist with pre-exam procedures, education, and timely patient flow to ensure a smooth experience from check-in to check-out.

You’ll perform testing with specialty equipment, help schedule referrals, and maintain accurate patient records while upholding HIPAA regulations. The role emphasizes teamwork, precision, and patient-first care.

Qualifications

• Experience evaluating patients for eye exams and dispensing eye exam medications.
• Familiarity with medical terms associated with eye treatment.
• Experience maintaining patients' records / files per HIPAA regulations.
• Industry certification (CPO, CPOA, CPOT).

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary evaluations of patients prior to exam by the Optometrist, such as dilation, topicals, diagnostic medications, Optomap, auto reflector, visual acuity, etc.
• Schedule referral appointments with Ophthalmologists, Diagnostic follow-up visits, and other specialty referrals, and complete paperwork.
• Record and maintain patient records in compliance with company, federal, and state policies (HIPAA).
• Respond to patient telephone inquiries regarding medication, treatment, problems referring to the Optometrist as necessary.
• Perform diagnostic testing using specialty equipment (OCT, Visual Field, Pachymetry, Retinal Camera, etc.).
• Assist with clerical duties related to medical documentation and potential scribing for the Optometrist.
