Job summary

AEG is hiring an Optometric Technician to support eye-care teams and assist Optometrists across pre-testing, specialty testing, and patient education. You will help manage appointments, verify records, and ensure efficient, high-quality patient experiences from check-in to discharge.

The role involves performing pre-exam evaluations, assisting with diagnostic testing, and maintaining EHR documentation while upholding HIPAA standards and office procedures.

Qualifications

• High School or GED qualification.
• Strong attention to the details and ability to work under pressure in fast paced environment.
• PC skills to include MS Office, Windows, and Word Processing.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively and professionally collaborate with co-workers and patients.

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary evaluations of patients prior to exam by the Optometrist, such as dilation, topicals, diagnostic medications, Optomap, auto reflector, visual acuity, etc.
• Performs verbal interview with patient prior to visit with Optometrist to determine medical issues and reasons for visit to provide details to Optometrist.
• May be required to schedule referral appointments with Ophthalmologists and other specialty referrals, and complete paperwork.
• Records and maintain patient records in compliance with HIPAA and state policies.
• Responds to patient inquiries regarding medication, treatment, problems referring to the Optometrist as necessary.
• May be required to perform diagnostic testing using specialty equipment (OCT, Visual Field, Pachymetry, Retinal Camera).
• Documents medical findings and communication between Optometrist and patient in EHR and assist with clerical duties related to medical documentation.
• Ensures maximum schedule utilization through pre-appointment confirmation and recall management.
• Implements contact lens insertion and removal classes and manages contact lens trial inventory.
