Job summary

AEG is hiring an Optometric Technician to support Optometrists by performing pre‑testing, assisting with specialty diagnostic testing, and managing the doctor’s schedule to ensure efficient, high‑quality patient experiences.

Responsibilities include preliminary patient evaluations, patient interviews, appointment scheduling with referrals, and maintaining HIPAA-compliant records. The role requires excellent communication and teamwork in a fast-paced optical practice.

Qualifications

• High School or GED qualification.
• Strong attention to the details and ability to work under pressure in fast paced environment.
• PC skills to include MS Office, Windows, and Word Processing.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively and professionally collaborate with co-workers and patients.

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary evaluations of patients prior to exam by the Optometrist, such as dilation, topicals, diagnostic medications, Optomap, auto reflector, visual acuity, etc.
• Performs verbal interview with patient prior to visit with Optometrist to determine medical issues and reasons for their visit to provide details to Optometrist.
• May be required to schedule referral appointments with Ophthalmologists, Diagnostic follow-up visits, and other specialty referrals, and complete paperwork.
• Records and maintain patient records / files in compliance with company, federal, and state policies (HIPAA).
• Responds to patient telephone inquiries regarding medication, treatment, problems referring to the Optometrist as necessary.
