Job summary

VisionWorks in New York is seeking a Clinical Specialist/Optometric Assistant to help ensure a great patient experience by preparing patients for onsite and remote examinations, performing pre-exam tests, and explaining each step of the process.

The role collaborates with Optometrists in both in-store and remote settings, assists with insurance preauthorizations, scheduling, and maintaining accurate patient records in a HIPAA-compliant environment.

Qualifications

• One year of related experience required.
• Optical or Healthcare background preferred.
• Medical office/business professionalism required.
• HS diploma, GED or equivalent related job experience.
• Training provided

Responsibilities

• Register patients and gather information into EMR.
• Assist onsite doctor with eye exams and document results.
• Support remote eye exams including testing and video conferencing.
• Transition patients to a retail associate with doctor recommendations.
• Explain MVC plan benefits to patients.
• Preauthorize insurance per SOP.
• Schedule appointments and manage exam books; contact no-shows.
• Maintain patient flow to support doctor effectiveness.
• Answer clinical questions; triage emergencies and schedule annual exams.
• Maintain patient records per standards.
• Instruct contact lens insertion, care and handling.
• Place and stock diagnostic contact lens orders.
• Know contact lens brands and pull trials.
• Keep environment clean; maintain equipment and supplies.
• Complete required clinical certifications.
• Work flexible schedules including travel
