Job summary

VisionWorks in New York is seeking a part-time Clinical Specialist/Optometric Assistant to enhance patient experience by preparing patients for on-site and remote examinations, performing pre-exam tests, and explaining steps. You will liaise between patients and Optometrists and participate in initial patient journey steps.

You will assist with testing, manage EMR records, and help coordinate appointments while upholding HIPAA standards and delivering excellent customer service.

Qualifications

• One year of related experience.
• Optical or healthcare background preferred.
• Medical office professionalism required.
• HS diploma, GED or equivalent related job experience.

Responsibilities

• Complete patient registration and submit medical history into EMR.
• Assist onsite doctor with eye examinations and document results in EMR.
• Explain prelim testing and operate remote eye exam workflow with documentation.
• Transition patient to retail associate with treatment plan guidance.
• Understand MVC plans and articulate benefits to patients.
• Preauthorize insurance following SOPs.
• Schedule appointments and manage exam books, including no-shows and cancellations.
• Maintain patient flow to support doctor effectiveness.
• Answer clinical questions in person/phone; triage emergencies and schedule exams.
• Maintain accurate patient records according to company standards.
• Instruct patients on contact lens care and handling.
• Place diagnostic contact lens orders and notify when ready.
• Know contact lens brands/parameters and pull trials when requested.
• Ensure clean environment and proper equipment maintenance.
• Participate in training and achieve required clinical certifications.
• Work flexible schedules including travel to other locations.
